Anambra State’s Agunechemba Security Squad reports that it has dismantled suspected gunmen’s camps in Orumba North and Orumba South local government areas. The operation, which follows intelligence gathering and undercover activity at security flashpoints in Anambra South Senatorial District over several days, results in the recovery of arms, including two General Purpose Machine Guns and locally made rocket launchers. According to statements issued by the outfit’s publicity officials, the rocket launchers and the recovered weapons are handed over to the Nigerian Army. The handover takes place in Awka and is presented as part of coordination with state and security authorities. Representatives of Governor Chukwuma Soludo attend the event, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, is said to commend the governor and the squad while reaffirming the Army’s commitment to partner with Agunechemba and other agencies. The reports state the operation causes no casualties on the security side, with the gunmen withdrawing and abandoning weapons, while fleeing with injuries. The squad also says it has reclaimed areas previously dominated by criminals in parts of Anambra State.
