UEFA threatens FIFA and Gianni Infantino with legal action after Infantino’s failed proposal to sell a stake in future World Cup profits to private investors. Multiple outlets report UEFA sent a legal letter to FIFA following the scrapping of the plan, sometimes referred to as the FFE (Future Events) plan. UEFA says it is actively considering legal action, arbitration, and/or regulatory complaints connected to the proposal, according to accounts of the letter’s contents.
The reporting also says UEFA issued a “preservation” or evidence-retention notice that requires documents and electronically stored information to be identified, located, and preserved. One report says the letter names 18 FIFA executives it wants to preserve relevant data, including Infantino, FIFA chief financial officer Thomas Peyer, and Arsène Wenger. Al Jazeera reports that UEFA confirms the letter has been served to FIFA and is in FIFA’s possession. Inside World Football further reports that England and Wales formally withdraw support for Infantino, adding another sign of declining backing amid the dispute.
