Gunmen attack a convoy belonging to Sekinat Oyebamiji, the wife of Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Asiwaju Oyebamiji, in Ede South Local Government Area. The incident occurs on Sunday evening shortly after Mrs Oyebamiji finishes a political engagement in Alajue Ward 2, where she meets residents and party supporters ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Both reports say Mrs Oyebamiji is travelling with Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of APC deputy governorship candidate Alhaji Kayode Adereti. Nigerian Eye reports the assailants number about 15 and strike around 7 p.m. According to both sources, the two women escape unharmed.
Nigerian Eye adds that one member of the convoy, identified as the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, suffers severe head injuries and is taken for medical treatment. The attack is described as part of wider concerns about political violence in Osun as the election approaches. No group is publicly identified in the provided accounts.
