Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives Minority Leader Fred Agbedi says the party can win Nigeria’s 2027 general elections if former President Goodluck Jonathan is on the ballot. Agbedi made the remarks on Monday during an interview on Arise Television’s “Morning Show,” where he described PDP’s preparations for the elections despite internal disagreements. He adds that while Jonathan has not publicly announced a presidential bid, he has neither ruled it out.
Agbedi also points to ongoing uncertainty within PDP over which internal faction will present the party’s presidential candidate, referencing the Wike faction and the Taminu Turaki faction. He expresses confidence that the eventual outcome will benefit his side.
The reports also note that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently rejected a Jonathan nomination submitted by the Turaki faction. INEC said the nomination was not processed in line with electoral regulations, including the requirement to submit nominations through the commission’s designated online portal.
