Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) appoints Prasanta Mahapatra as an Executive Director, according to reports from multiple outlets. Mahapatra takes charge as Executive Director of SEBI and is assigned oversight of the Corporation Finance Investigation Department and the Recovery and Refund Department. SEBI’s statement described the role as covering investigation-related work in the corporation finance area, along with functions related to recovery and refunds.

Before the elevation, Mahapatra served as Chief General Manager at SEBI. He joined the regulator in April 1999 and has held a range of responsibilities across different SEBI departments during his more than 27-year tenure, including roles connected to market regulation, investigations, enquiries and adjudication, and oversight of market intermediaries. Reports also note experience in SEBI’s Eastern Regional Office in Kolkata.

The articles further state that Mahapatra has participated in domestic policy-making and advisory committees and holds a master’s degree in business administration from Utkal University, Odisha.
