ADC denies Ogun East structure collapsed into APC amid 2027 campaign claims

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has rejected claims that its structure in the Ogun East Senatorial District has collapsed into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in support of gubernatorial candidate Solomon Adeola (Yayi).Reports circulating on Monday alleged that the ADC’s Ogun East structure defected en masse to the APC over the weekend to back Yayi’s 2027 campaign. The claims followed statements by Erinle Opeoluwa, the ADC chairman in Ijebu North East, who said some members switched because opposition politics had brought them no gains after three election cycles and left many worse off.According to reports, Opeoluwa and nine others left the ADC for the APC. They include Kazeem Adebanjo (Ijebu North), Dehinsilu Olusegun (Ikenne), Gbade Oluwasegun (Ijebu Ode), Shittu Titilola (Ijebu East), Omooba Kazeem (Sagamu), Adegoroye Osubukola (Remo North), Salisu Abdulwaheed (Odogbolu), Ibidunni Adetola (Ijebu Ode chieftain), and Yemi Macauley (also an Ijebu Ode chieftain).Responding on Monday, ADC State Publicity Secretary Olumide Onabajo described the reports as false and misleading. He insisted the party in Ogun East remains united, functional, and committed to contesting the 2027 elections.“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun East did not collapse its structure into the APC,” Onabajo said. “The individuals reported to have joined the APC acted strictly in their personal capacities. Their decisions do not represent the position of the African Democratic Congress, nor do they amount to a collapse of the party’s structure in Ogun East.”He emphasized that a party’s structure consists of constitutionally recognized leadership, executives, and organs at ward, local government, senatorial, and state levels, not individual members or chieftains. Onabajo added that ADC structures across the nine local government areas in Ogun East remain intact and operational as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.The spokesman accused those spreading the reports of deliberately creating a false impression of the political situation in the district. He urged party members, supporters, and the public to disregard the claims, stating that the ADC remains focused on offering a credible alternative to the people of Ogun State.
