Actress Bhumi Pednekar faces renewed criticism after a former acting teacher publicly recalled alleged “disrespectful” behaviour from her student days, amid an ongoing controversy tied to her comments on NEET-UG 2026 protests. The teacher, Shruti Desai, a spiritual psychotherapist who says she briefly taught Pednekar at a Mumbai-based film school, posted on Instagram questioning how Pednekar’s views on “respect” and responsibility changed over time. Desai’s post went viral and drew mixed reactions: some users supported the teacher for sharing personal experience, while others argued it is unfair to judge a person’s current views based on earlier incidents.
The latest backlash follows Pednekar’s videos addressing the protest, including her condemnation of abusive language allegedly directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the protests. Some social media users accused her of focusing on language while not addressing reports of police action against protesting students during the July 20 Sansad March. Pednekar later posted another video condemning alleged rape and death threats against a young female protester, which also received mixed responses, with some users saying it amounted to “damage control” or selective outrage.
