A CRPF officer in Assam kills two colleagues and injures a third before dying by suicide, according to multiple reports. The incident occurs at the CRPF’s 34 Battalion camp in Katimari at around 7:00 a.m. An ASI/GD, Ballani Premabaram, who is on duty at the main gate, fires at colleagues, leaving two dead and one injured. After the shootings, the officer dies by suicide.

Senior police and CRPF personnel rush to the camp following the incident. The reports say an inquiry has been ordered to determine the circumstances and sequence of events. One outlet also cites a senior superintendent of police as saying the officer is not carrying his service rifle while on duty at the main gate, raising questions about how the weapon was available.

Authorities are treating the case as an incident involving internal violence within the CRPF unit and are conducting an investigation into possible causes, including access to the firearm and any contributing factors on site.
