Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo says the government is accelerating work to tackle both housing and land-ownership issues in Region 10 (Linden). Speaking during a public day outreach in Linden on Tuesday, Jagdeo said the state is moving to regularise land ownership for nearly 1,000 residents who have been living on land formerly owned by the bauxite company. He said this effort is part of broader measures to regularise occupancy and provide residents with clearer land titles.
Jagdeo also referenced government plans to clear the region’s housing backlog, noting a target timeline. One report says the backlog is expected to be cleared by next year, while another specifies that the clearing is planned for 2027. Both accounts describe the same combined approach in Linden: land regularisation for affected residents and progress toward reducing the housing shortfall in Region 10.
