Ronald Exantus is released from the Kentucky State Reformatory after completing sentences tied to the 2015 killing of 6-year-old Logan Tipton. Exantus had been found not guilty by reason of insanity in connection with Tipton’s death, following the 2015 home invasion in Kentucky. Separate from that insanity finding, he also receives convictions for assault connected to the same incident and serves additional time for those offenses. According to reports, he completes the sentence on July 29 and is then freed.

Fox News notes that Logan’s Law reforms that took effect in later years were in place by the time of Exantus’s continued confinement but arrived too late to change the outcome for him. The family’s reaction, as described by Fox News, is that justice has not been served, though the legal basis for release is tied to completion of the sentence he was ordered to serve for the related assault convictions.
