Tropical Storm Maymay continues to affect parts of Luzon, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to issue tropical cyclone wind signals. In separate morning advisories on August 5, PAGASA officials report that Wind Signal No. 2 is raised over multiple areas in Luzon due to the threat of gale-force winds associated with the storm. PAGASA also maintains Wind Signal No. 1 in additional locations as strong winds remain possible.
In PAGASA’s 8 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, Maymay (international name: Kujira) maintains its strength with maximum sustained winds estimated at up to 65 kilometers per hour near the center, along with gusts up to 80 kilometers per hour. Earlier guidance at 5 a.m. reflected similar wind and gust estimates. The advisories link the wind signals to expected wind conditions from Maymay, with different levels of warning depending on the areas affected.
