Former Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) chairman Sam Amadi calls on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to refrain from circulating forged materials amid controversy over an allegedly fake Catholic youth statement. Writing on X on Wednesday, Amadi argues that the ruling party can make a strong rebuttal without resorting to forgery, adding that “forgery is not good.”
The dispute follows a disclaimer issued by the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), which distances itself from a document circulating online with the title “Our Faith Must Rise Above Partisan Politics.” CYON says the publication purports to be from a group named “Catholic Youth Association of Nigeria (CYAN),” which it says does not exist. The organisation describes the circulating document as “false, fraudulent and unauthorised,” and urges the public to disregard it. CYON says the publication amounts to impersonation intended to mislead Nigerians and Catholic faithful, and it indicates it may pursue legal action against those responsible. The reports link Amadi’s remarks to the broader controversy involving Cardinal John Onaiyekan’s comments and reactions to them.
