Social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, says he will honour a police invitation only under specific conditions related to his allegations against Lagos-based Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Moshood Jimoh. Multiple outlets report that Otse’s legal team, through lawyer Deji Adeyanju, responds to an invitation by the Nigeria Police Force’s Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, for him to substantiate claims he previously made. The reports say the police invitation follows an August 4 statement by the Nigeria Police Force confirming that the invitation was extended so Otse can support his allegations.
While Otse indicates he welcomes an official probe and states he has not opposed any lawful investigation, his lawyers demand a process designed to maintain public trust. They call for the investigative interview to be conducted with strict transparency, fairness and accountability due to the public interest and the seniority of the officer involved. One repeatedly cited condition is allowing independent oversight, including representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), civil society organisations, and other observers, to monitor the interview.
The outlets consistently frame the issue as Otse seeking safeguards around how the police investigation is carried out rather than refusing cooperation outright.
