The Nigerian Army has confirmed that 17 family members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) have voluntarily surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in Borno State.According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Capt. Muhammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for OPHK, 16 individuals surrendered in Konduga Local Government Area, while one other surrendered in Bama Local Government Area.“Sustained offensive operations by troops of Operation Hadin Kai have continued to exert significant pressure on terrorist elements across the North-East, resulting in the voluntary surrender of 17 family members of JAS,” the statement read.On August 4, 2026, at about 9:15 a.m., 16 family members—comprising 10 women and six children—surrendered to troops of the 222 Battalion during a patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga.A total of ₦92,000 was recovered from the group during preliminary debriefing.Later that day, at about 12:04 p.m., an 11-year-old boy surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion in Bama, also citing sustained military pressure as the reason.The Army said the surrendered individuals are currently in custody undergoing profiling and debriefing. They will later be handed over to appropriate authorities for rehabilitation and other administrative procedures in line with established guidelines.Capt. Goni stressed that the development reflects the impact of ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting logistics, and denying insurgents freedom of movement.“Troops will continue to dominate operational areas, maintain pressure on terrorist enclaves, and facilitate the safe and voluntary surrender of those willing to lay down their arms,” he assured.
