Maharashtra’s Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane says the state will expedite the development of a modern cruise terminal at Bhagwati Port in Ratnagiri. Speaking at a review meeting in Mantralaya, Rane frames the project as part of the state’s broader priority for port infrastructure and coastal tourism in the Konkan region. He says the cruise terminal is intended to improve passenger facilities and strengthen Ratnagiri’s position as a destination for domestic and international cruise visitors.
Rane also links the initiative to expected economic and employment benefits, citing potential gains for local sectors such as hospitality, transport, tour operations, handicrafts, fisheries, and small-scale industries, along with opportunities for local entrepreneurs. The minister states that administrative approval has already been secured and that environmental and other statutory clearances are being expedited. He adds that the techno-economic feasibility study has been completed and that the detailed project report is in its final stages, with officials directed to complete remaining technical and administrative formalities. He says the project execution will focus on modern infrastructure while emphasizing environmental conservation and sustainable development.
