The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) dismisses two personnel from its Mining Marshal squad for unlawfully providing firearms to illegal miners, according to reports by Premium Times and Vanguard. The NSCDC says the dismissals relate to alleged firearms proliferation linked to mining activities.
In the same development, the NSCDC exonerates the Mining Marshals Commander, identified in Premium Times as John Onoja. Premium Times adds that the exoneration also covers allegations that Onoja’s team was linked to the diversion of N2 billion and a cover-up of circumstances surrounding the death of a personnel, Levi Agada, in Nasarawa State. The outlet reports the NSCDC’s stance that there is no basis for culpability against the commander.
Vanguard focuses on the arms-proliferation aspect, reporting that the dismissed operatives are held responsible for unlawful firearm provision, while the mining commander is cleared. Both sources present the NSCDC’s internal action as the conclusion of an investigation into alleged misconduct by Mining Marshals personnel and leadership.
