The fate of a luxury jumbo jet gifted by Qatar to President Trump remains unclear as planning for his future presidential library continues. The New York Times reports that a White House official says no final decision has been made on which plane will be displayed at the library, leaving open whether the Qatari jet will be moved there. That uncertainty contrasts with statements Trump made last year, when he said the jet would go directly to the library after he leaves office and that he would not use it.
The jet has been controversial since it was provided to Trump, with Trump previously asserting that it was a gift for the Department of Defense rather than for him personally. After the transfer, the aircraft required substantial upgrades to meet requirements for service as a replacement for Air Force One, according to reporting. In May, Trump also said he left the plane in the United Kingdom to allow U.S. soldiers stationed in Europe to see it, while other reporting has attributed the departure to security concerns.
As of now, sources indicate the library display plans have not settled on the Qatari aircraft.
