India’s cricket board (BCCI) is reportedly overhauling how it measures player fitness following concerns raised during the team’s injury-affected England tour. Multiple reports say the BCCI’s medical and sports science setup is trying to improve coordination between its units, including the Centre of Excellence and the senior team, to ensure consistent assessment of players’ fitness levels.
According to the reports, changes come after Adrian Leroux took over as strength and conditioning coach, replacing Soham Desai last year. Since Leroux assumed the role, the BCCI has moved toward standardising fitness testing procedures across squads. Sources indicate the Bronco test is being used as a primary measure rather than relying on the Yo-Yo test, which had previously been a key benchmark.
In addition, the BCCI is introducing uniform 2K benchmarks alongside the Bronco test, with the stated aim of creating clearer, comparable fitness standards for players going forward. The initiative is described as a response to growing fitness worries and injuries observed during the England tour.
