Authorities in the Maldives recover the bodies of the last two of five Italian divers who died during a dive in a deep underwater cave, according to multiple reports. An Italian foreign ministry source says the first recovered body is lifted onto a support boat, while the second is brought up by a diver who monitors decompression stops. Maldivian officials confirm both remaining divers have been recovered and brought to the surface.

Several outlets also describe earlier stages of the incident. The search and recovery effort involves Maldivian authorities and external recovery teams, after the five divers died on 14 May while diving in the cave. Sky News and The West Australian report that the operation was suspended after a military diver died during an attempt to reach the missing divers. NDTV and The Mirror add that the diver dies of underwater decompression sickness.

Channel NewsAsia quotes a recovery company executive saying the divers may have gotten lost inside the cave, based on the cave layout and where the bodies were found. The Independent reports Maldivian authorities are investigating whether the group descended deeper than expected.
