Unemployment in the Philippines rises slightly in June, according to a Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) report. The number of unemployed Filipinos increases to 2.59 million in June, up from 2.50 million in May. As a result, the unemployment rate moves to 4.9%, compared with 4.8% the previous month.
Alongside the rise in unemployment, employment levels also increase. The number of employed Filipinos grows to 50.66 million in June from 49.63 million in May. However, the employment rate eases to 95.1% from 95.2%. Labor force participation improves, with 53.25 million Filipinos either employed or actively looking for work, equivalent to a 65.1% participation rate.
Overall, the data show a small month-on-month deterioration in unemployment, while other labor market indicators—such as employment numbers and labor force participation—either improve or move modestly.
