Two police officers assigned to the Caloocan City Police Station are arrested in a buy-bust operation for alleged involvement in the illegal sale of firearms, the Philippine National Police said. The NCRPO reported that the operation resulted in the arrest of the suspects after the alleged sale of firearms to a civilian poseur-buyer. The buy-bust took place inside a compound in Barangay 5 following intelligence gathering. The PNP also said that, aside from a criminal case, corresponding administrative cases are being pursued against the two officers. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said he directed the filing of administrative proceedings and indicated that the officers could be dismissed, depending on the outcome of the cases.
The suspects are identified in reports as a 32-year-old police staff sergeant and a 39-year-old police master sergeant. The allegations are under investigation, with the PNP stating the arrests stem from the buy-bust operation conducted to verify the alleged illegal gun sale activity.
