Activist Sonam Wangchuk says his wife, Geetanjali (Gitanjali) Angmo, tried to involve Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to help end Wangchuk’s 26-day hunger strike. Wangchuk, addressing criticism around his decision to end the fast in the presence of Union ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh, said Angmo was “working hard” to see whether Rahul Gandhi could break his fast but “didn’t get a positive response.” Times of India similarly reports that Wangchuk expressed disappointment that political leaders did not take up his offer.
Both accounts also mention Wangchuk’s allegations related to the handling of photographs from a “midnight meeting” in which he ended his protest. He alleges that Union ministers broke a promise not to release images, stating that senior Intelligence Bureau officials were witnesses to the understanding. Wangchuk also criticized the approach of political leaders, including claims that they arrived late, while describing the apolitical CJP organization as acting “fairly” in advocating for his cause.
