Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo says corruption remains Nigeria’s biggest challenge and is a main driver of the country’s persistent economic and security problems. He makes the case while addressing the Arewa Awareness Summit on Unity Against Insecurity in Kaduna State, according to reports. Adebayo argues that Nigeria cannot overcome insecurity and poverty without transparency, accountability and integrity in public service, and he calls on political leaders to adopt responsible governance. He links the effectiveness of policies and institutions to their grounding in anti-corruption practices, saying reforms cannot succeed without these standards. He also urges stakeholders to move beyond discussing the causes of insecurity and instead focus on practical, sustainable solutions. In outlining priorities, he highlights the potential of Northern Nigeria’s human and natural resources for economic growth and calls for leaders to harness that capacity. He further advocates increased investment in agriculture for job creation, food security and economic expansion, and he expresses concern about the high number of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria, warning that development will remain difficult without improved education investment.
