Kejriwal alleges the government is planning increased ethanol blending not only in petrol (E20) but also in diesel and aviation fuel, and his remarks prompt a counter-attack from BJP spokespersons.
BJP’s Amit Malviya rejects Kejriwal’s statements, characterizing them as “fake news” and “fear politics.” Malviya says there is no decision in place for ethanol blending beyond E20 fuel. He also argues that E20 implementation follows extensive testing and consultations.
The dispute also touches on consumer and vehicle-performance concerns raised by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). AAP critics have said E20 petrol can have adverse effects on vehicles, which they use to question the programme’s expansion.
