The Rivers State Police Command has dismantled a kidnapping syndicate and arrested five suspects in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.The command’s spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday. She said the suspects were arrested during a coordinated operation by operatives of the Oyigbo Divisional Police Station, acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju.The arrested suspects are Ezekiel Emmanuel, 44, from Benue State; Chukwuma Mbanefor, 51, from Anambra State; Nicholas Diala, 65, from Imo State; Ndubuisi Uwakwe, 49, from Abia State; and Ifeanyi Nwakwo, 51, from Imo State.According to the police, the suspects confessed during interrogation to involvement in kidnapping activities. They also admitted to participating in several abductions and terrorising residents in the Kom-Kom, Railway, Obeama and Afam communities within Oyigbo and its environs.Agabe noted that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate.Commenting on the operation, CP Adepoju said the success reflects the implementation of the operational directives and intelligence-driven policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state. Adepoju warned that there would be no safe haven for kidnappers or other criminal elements, adding that the police would relentlessly pursue, arrest and prosecute them.The commissioner assured residents of the command’s resolve to protect lives and property, and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to assist in crime prevention and the apprehension of offenders.
