The United States formally requests the extradition of Apollo Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC), from the Philippines, according to Philippine officials. Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez says the US Department of State transmitted the formal request to Manila and wants the matter handled “as soon as possible,” citing multiple cases in the United States. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirms it receives the request and endorses it to the Department of Justice (DOJ), which acts as the Philippines’ central authority for extradition requests.
Philippine DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez outlines that extradition under the RP–US treaty and Philippine laws follows a multi-step process. Under this framework, the DFA first checks whether the request complies with the treaty and applicable domestic requirements. The request then undergoes review across relevant executive agencies and the judiciary before any surrender of the person can occur. Separately, Romualdez reiterates that US authorities are “very eager” for the Philippines to resolve the request.
