Abdulrahman Buba Zaune, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) publicity secretary in Gombe State, resigns from the party with immediate effect, according to reports from The Punch and Nigerian Eye. Both accounts link the resignation to a political shift in the run-up to the 2027 governorship election. Nigerian Eye reports that Zaune announces the decision in a resignation letter dated August 5, 2026, addressed to the ADC chairman in Zaune Ward, Dukku Local Government Area, where he also thanks the party for opportunities to serve at local, state and national levels and writes that he wishes the party well. He does not state in the reports where he plans to go next. The resignations are described as generating speculation that Zaune could join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Nigerian Eye notes that the timing follows a visit by APC governorship candidate Jamilu Gwamna to Dukku, Zaune’s home area, about 24 hours earlier. The reports also connect the development to the earlier defection of ADC state secretary Ahmed Gana to the APC in support of Gwamna.
