A report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) says regional parties in India receive substantially more political funding through donations above ₹20,000 in FY 2024-25. According to the report, such donations more than triple, reaching ₹1,051 crore. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is the largest recipient, receiving ₹365.78 crore through donations above the threshold, with the report citing 467 donations. The data also shows a sharp shift in the composition of donations: cash donations rise dramatically from ₹6.54 crore in the previous year to ₹301.44 crore in FY 2024-25. The report indicates that corporate and business houses remain a major source of political funding. It also notes that electoral bonds had been a significant funding channel earlier, though they are discontinued. In addition to DMK, several other regional parties are reported to see increases in the number and/or volume of donations above ₹20,000, including the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), AIADMK, LJP (Ram Vilas), Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], and Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
