The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has ruled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) acted unlawfully when it directed Zenith Bank to maintain restrictions on the bank account of Homadil Realty Limited. Justice M. A. Hassan delivered the judgment on 23 April 2026 in Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/830/2025, filed by Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac and Homadil Realty Limited.

The court found that the EFCC exceeded its powers by imposing and continuing a “post no debit” restriction without first obtaining a court order. While the EFCC can impose an initial restriction, the court held that any extension requires judicial approval. The judgment also said the restriction violated the applicants’ constitutional right to property.

As a result, the court ordered EFCC to pay ₦2 million in damages and ordered Zenith Bank to pay an additional ₦2 million for acting on the EFCC’s unlawful directives, bringing total compensation to ₦4 million. The dispute is linked to a petition involving property plots in Guzape and Katampe, with the court noting concerns raised through cross-petitions about related individuals and entities.
