The Ministry of Education has opened fresh and renewal applications for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the 2026-27 academic year on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Multiple outlets report that eligible students can complete their applications online until August 31, 2026.
NDTV and Times of India both note that Class 9 students are eligible to apply. The scheme covers merit-cum-means support through scholarships available under NMMSS. Times of India further states that the ministry has released a verification schedule for institute and district nodal officers, indicating that applications will go through institutional and district-level checks.
Times of India also adds an important update for the current academic year: students may apply for one merit-based scholarship along with one or more welfare-based scholarship schemes, provided they meet the respective eligibility requirements. Students are advised to check eligibility conditions and follow the application steps on NSP before the deadline.
