The event will bring together handloom weavers, award winners, government officials and other stakeholders from the sector.A key part of the programme will be the presentation of the Sant Kabir Handloom Awards and National Handloom Awards for 2025. The Ministry says promising ideas may be considered for mentoring, incubation and further development.The initiative reflects a broader shift in the sector, preserving traditional craftsmanship while exploring how technology and modern design can help handlooms remain competitive.India's handloom sector and the people behind itIndia's handloom industry supports millions of people across the country and remains particularly important for rural livelihoods.According to the Ministry of Textiles, the Fourth All India Handloom Census 2019-20 recorded around 31.45 lakh handloom households and approximately 35.22 lakh handloom weavers and allied workers.Women also account for more than 70% of the handloom workforce, according to the Ministry of Textiles. The sector is therefore closely linked not only with India's textile heritage but also with livelihoods and women's economic participation.
