Samsung has announced the ISOCELL HPC, a 200-megapixel image sensor for flagship smartphones. Multiple outlets report that the sensor is the first to use Samsung’s DeepPix pixel architecture, which is designed to improve light capture and reduce overexposure by allowing pixels to hold more light. Samsung says this leads to better dynamic range and improved low-light performance compared with the company’s prior sensor generation.

The ISOCELL HPC supports 16-bit HDR and is described as enabling HDR processing across multiple in-sensor zoom levels. It also supports RAW16 output, along with a burst-shooting feature available at multiple resolutions. For focusing, Samsung highlights Super QPD autofocus.

On video, Samsung states the sensor can record up to 4K at 180 frames per second. GSMArena and NDTV also cite Samsung’s claims about new optical technologies intended to improve color accuracy and image clarity. Samsung says the ISOCELL HPC is already in mass production, indicating availability for upcoming devices.
