OpenAI is rolling out a new personal finance experience inside ChatGPT for subscribers to its $200-per-month Pro plan in the United States. The feature lets eligible users connect financial accounts through Plaid, enabling ChatGPT to generate advice grounded in the user’s own financial context. Once accounts are linked, ChatGPT provides a dashboard that presents spending history and current status, including items such as subscriptions, balances, transactions, upcoming payments, and information related to investments and liabilities. Users can also ask questions about personal finance topics, ranging from budgeting and identifying changes in spending to evaluating larger decisions such as buying a house or assessing portfolio risk.
Multiple outlets report that OpenAI states it cannot view full account numbers or make changes to users’ accounts. Reporting also indicates that account integration currently relies on Plaid and that additional financial connectivity (including Intuit) is planned. OpenAI says it will begin with Pro users and intends to expand access to Plus and other users after learning from early usage and incorporating feedback. Outlets further note OpenAI’s emphasis on user controls, including the ability to disconnect linked accounts.
