Anambra House of Representatives member Oby Orogbu empowers more than 500 constituents in Awka North and Awka South with vehicles, tricycles, vocational tools and scholarships. The second phase of her empowerment programme, titled “Empowering Communities, Building Futures,” takes place on Friday and draws beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
Recipients receive transport-related items such as cars, shuttle buses and tricycles, alongside business and household support including sewing and grinding machines and generating sets. Educational support is provided through scholarships for deserving students. Orogbu says the programme is meant to reduce poverty and youth unemployment while improving livelihoods through economic interventions rather than welfare.
The outlets also note that prominent political figures attend, including Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, who praises Orogbu’s people-focused representation and calls for credible elections. Senator Victor Umeh and NDC officials also commend the initiative. Orogbu states that because demand exceeds what can be covered in one phase, another empowerment round is scheduled for November 2026.
