The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) removes the Officer-in-Charge of the Ibara Medium Custodial Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and two other senior officers after a security breach involving a death row inmate who allegedly goes live on TikTok from custody. NCoS says the incident involves serious violations of custodial regulations and prison security protocols.
The inmate is identified as Elijah Oyebode, who was sentenced to death by hanging in 2019 following his conviction for the murder of Rofiat Adebisi, a final-year student of Osun State University. Reported court records cited by outlets say Oyebode gives conflicting accounts before trial and later denies involvement, while the court convicts him based on medical evidence and other materials presented.
Across the reports, the alleged breach includes Oyebode maintaining an active TikTok presence, with one account reportedly reaching “Level 20” gifting status to receive monetary gifts. Outlets also report NCoS finds that he unlawfully possesses a prohibited mobile phone, which is recovered and secured as an exhibit. NCoS says Oyebode is transferred to another facility and placed under enhanced security measures while investigations continue.
