Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian meets Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in late July, state media reports. The meeting takes place around the start of Pezeshkian’s third year in office and includes discussions that state outlets describe as covering military and economic topics.
State media says the session addresses areas such as military affairs and economic management, including foreign exchange and energy use, as well as economic ties with foreign partners. Middle East Eye and Reuters also report that the president has offered differing accounts in recent weeks about his access to Khamenei, who has not been seen in public since succeeding his father, Ali Khamenei.
The reports also revisit earlier developments: in May, state media said Pezeshkian met Khamenei for several hours, described then as the first publicly reported meeting since Khamenei became supreme leader. Separately, a senior Basij official says footage and other documentation showing Khamenei in public and in meetings with armed forces commanders will be released in the future, following the February strike that reportedly injured Khamenei.
