Nigeria’s federal government spends about N3.14 trillion on domestic debt servicing in the first quarter of 2026, according to the Debt Management Office (DMO). The figure covers both interest and principal payments made between January and March 2026.

The DMO’s domestic debt service report says the total comprises N2.97 trillion in interest payments and N169.68 billion in principal repayments. It also breaks down month-by-month spending, stating that debt service rises from N741.82 billion in January to N967.67 billion in February, before increasing to N1.43 trillion in March. Sources also report that interest accounts for about 94.6% of total domestic debt service during the quarter.

On the composition of interest, the DMO says treasury bills contribute the largest share of interest payments at around N1 trillion, while interest on federal government bonds totals about N1.96 trillion. The reports further note a small additional interest payment related to FGN savings bonds. Both outlets present the same DMO figure and do not dispute the reported quarterly total, though they differ only in how much detail they include.
