Boko Haram’s insurgency is reported to have a new emergence involving Ibn Mohammed bin Shakau, described as the biological son of the late group leader Abubakar Shekau. Counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama says the man has reportedly appeared within Boko Haram’s ranks, citing a post on X.
The report frames the development as raising concerns about whether Shekau’s ideology and networks could persist. It also recalls Shekau’s role in leading Boko Haram after founder Mohammed Yusuf’s death, during a period marked by attacks across Nigeria’s North-East and beyond, targeting communities, security personnel, government institutions and civilians.
