Police conduct a drug eradication exercise in Bartica Village, Upper Berbice River, and discover a suspected cannabis farm, destroying the plants and also recovering a firearm and ammunition. The operation runs from about 06:00 to 12:30 on Thursday, August 6, 2026, and is led by a gazetted officer.
According to police reports cited by both outlets, officers find a field measuring approximately two acres containing about 5,000 suspected cannabis plants. The plants are described as ranging from roughly three to six feet in height. During the same exercise, officers also locate a makeshift camp where a shotgun and ammunition are reportedly found.
The outlets differ slightly in the firearm details: one describes the recovery of “gun, ammo,” while the other specifies a 12-gauge shotgun and six matching cartridges. Both accounts attribute the findings and destruction to the police ranks’ eradication efforts at the site.
