A wildfire in southern France rages on Sunday, leading to evacuations as more than 200 firefighters work to contain it. The blaze breaks out at around 12:45pm in the Lozere region, roughly 140km northwest of Montpellier.
Authorities say the fire may have been sparked by a vehicle catching fire on a local road. By late afternoon, it has scorched about 90 hectares (220 acres) and continues to spread. France 24 reports that two hamlets are evacuated, while other outlets describe evacuations more generally in the affected area.
All reports describe the fire as fast-moving and out of control, with extremely dry conditions contributing to its spread. The firefighting response draws on crews from Lozere and neighboring departments, reflecting the scale of the incident and the ongoing effort to bring the flames under control.
