Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” takes the No. 1 spot at the South Korean weekend box office for Aug. 7–9, based on Korean Film Council (KOFIC) data compiled via KOBIS. Across the three-day period, the film earns about $10.3 million from roughly 1.33 million admissions, playing on 1,798 screens and drawing a reported 45.13% share of total ticket sales.
The result comes as “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is knocked from the top. The Spider-Man title records about 1.26 million admissions over the same weekend window. KOFIC’s figures also show “The Odyssey” has accumulated 1,874,731 admissions total as of Sunday.
Both outlets describe “The Odyssey” as following Odysseus, portrayed by Matt Damon, on a perilous homecoming journey after winning the Trojan War. They also list a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron and Zendaya. Other titles mentioned include the animated “Heartsping Of Love 2: The Legend of the Whale Jewel” and the alien epic “Hope,” which place below the top two.
