The death toll from the southwest monsoon (“habagat”) rains and tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay (international name: Kujira) increases as officials continue to update casualty figures. Inquirer.net reports the toll rises to 16 deaths from nine as of Monday morning, based on Philippine National Police (PNP) data.
The PNP records 15 deaths as of 6 a.m. on August 10, citing fatalities logged by its regional units. In contrast, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports a higher total of 19 deaths as of 6 a.m. on August 11, and also lists related impacts. Alongside the fatalities, the NDRRMC reports 15 injuries and four missing persons, including cases tied to a landslide in Baguio City and missing individuals in other provinces. The difference between the PNP and NDRRMC figures reflects separate reporting timelines and counting approaches rather than a single consolidated figure.
