Halkawt Mustafa’s “No Paradise if You Are Killed by a Woman” enters Venice with new teaser

Time for a first look at one of the many films premiering at this year's Venice Film Festival - kicking off in early September. No Paradise if You Are Killed by a Woman is the latest film made by the acclaimed Norwegian-Kurdish filmmaker Halkawt Mustafa, originally born in Iraq, who is telling a story of a hardened soldier fighting against ISIS. This will be premiering soon in the main festival's Out of Competition section in Venice next month. Kurdish sniper Vyan has suppressed her emotions to survive war. When she discovers her sister, initially lost in ISIS' 2014 attack, may still be alive in Mosul, she returns to the ravaged city to find her and face the trauma she's long avoided. Her return forces her to confront the violence she survived and the shadows of the person she became. Starring Avan Jamal as Vyan & Thorbjørn Harr as Anders, with Kanar Sarchl & Kader Jalal. The film is inspired by actual women director Mustafa has met, along with the courage of Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Nadia Murad, who was abducted in 2014 by ISIS in Iraq.
