Osun State First Lady Titilola Adeleke leads a women’s protest across the state, calling for an end to what organizers describe as indiscriminate arrests and election-related violence ahead of the Saturday governorship election. The demonstration includes traders and artisans and features placards with messages such as “Election is not war” and “Police must be neutral.”
The protesters march from Osogbo–Ilobu Road to the Osun State Police Command. Adeleke says political actors target opposition figures and urges the police to question All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders amid reports of violence. She points to recent incidents, including the arrest and alleged mistreatment of the Commissioner for Environment.
At the police command, Adeleke presents a letter of demands to the Commissioner of Police, Samuel Etaifo. Etaifo assures protesters their concerns will be addressed and says the police are committed to a peaceful election. He also warns that attempts to manipulate the poll will result in arrests and prosecution and advises the crowd to disperse to prevent clashes, offering escorts back to the starting point.
