Former APC chieftain Salihu Lukman says “some monarchies” are preferable to the current state of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Trust TV on Monday, he argues that democracy inside the party is not working and that its political structures are inactive.
Lukman says he initially believed President Bola Tinubu and the APC were committed to democratic practice before the 2023 elections, but he now disputes that claim. He cites what he describes as the APC’s failure to hold constitutional meetings, including an allegation that the National Executive Council (NEC) has not convened for about six months despite a requirement to meet every three months. He also points to other party organs being inactive.
