The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has authorised its branches in 20 universities to issue 14-day ultimatums to their respective authorities and prepare for industrial action over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.The decision was taken at the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja on Saturday and Sunday, August 8 and 9, 2026.In resolutions signed by ASUU President Christopher Piwuna, the NEC expressed concern over what it described as the haphazard implementation of the 2025 agreement. It also criticised the federal government’s failure to release the necessary subvention for full implementation and faulted visitors to several state-owned universities that have yet to enforce the deal.Consequently, the NEC granted approval to the branches that requested permission to begin procedures for industrial action, provided they first issue a 14-day ultimatum.The affected institutions are: Nasarawa State University, Keffi; Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai; University of Medical Sciences, Ondo; Gombe State University; Plateau State University, Bokkos; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba; Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma; Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa; Abia State University, Uturu; University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa; Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo; Kaduna State University; Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil; Northwest University, Kano; Enugu State University of Science and Technology; Imo State University, Owerri; Niger Delta University; University of Africa, Toru-Orua; Bayelsa Medical University; and Taraba State University, Jalingo.ASUU directed that if the demands remain unmet after the ultimatums expire, the affected branches should proceed on strike.
