A former Deloitte IT manager, Ho Man-kit, 40, is remanded in custody pending sentence after he admits stealing 423 laptops from the firm’s Hong Kong office. He pleads guilty to theft at the District Court, and prosecutors say the computers were misappropriated over about 17 months.
Ho sold the Lenovo laptops to an electronics recycler between September 2021 and February 2023, according to reports. The devices are described as worth about HK$1.2 million (US$153,000). NDTV adds that the proceeds, reported as more than HK$458,000 (around Rs 55 lakh), are funnelled into stock options trades, which ultimately lead to losses.
The outlets’ accounts align on the core details—Ho’s identity, the number of laptops, the recycler sale, the timeframe, and the stated value of the computers—while differing mainly in the emphasis placed on the amount diverted to trading and the description of its outcome. Court proceedings continue as the case moves toward sentencing.
