Vijay Singh, a trustee and vice-chairman of Tata Trusts, steps down as a trustee of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT), with his term due to end on Aug 14. His departure ends a long association with SRTT, although he continues as a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust for another year.
The move comes as SRTT faces governance and regulatory headwinds. Multiple reports say the trust has sought permission from the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner to hold key meetings, citing delays that could affect charitable disbursements of about ₹400 crore and decisions related to Tata Sons. The commissioner has reportedly restrained SRTT from holding meetings while a complaint is examined, including issues linked to alleged share transfer matters and trustee appointments.
Outlets also connect Singh’s exit to broader internal differences within the Tata Trusts. Reports describe public disagreements on the Tata Sons listing question and earlier disputes involving trustee reappointments in other Tata-related trusts. Singh says he is not seeking another SRTT term, while other coverage notes uncertainty around whether he would have unanimous support for reappointment and highlights upcoming items that may be considered at meetings, including Tata Sons director-related resolutions.
