Security forces in Enugu State arrest three suspects allegedly linked to the 2 August 2026 kidnapping of Catholic seminarian Lawrence Igbo and Emmanuel Onwudi at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Inoyi-Affa, Udi Local Government Area. The operation is carried out jointly by the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Enugu State Forest Guard and other agencies.

During the raid, operatives recover ransom money reportedly paid to the kidnappers and seize weapons, including AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunition. Nigerian Eye reports that one suspect is killed in a gun battle while three others are arrested and paraded at the DSS headquarters in Enugu on Monday evening. The accounts also state that the remaining two victims are released. Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, says the suspects are tracked using the state’s technology-driven security infrastructure, and that the freed victims identify the arrested suspects as part of the gang.
