Supermassive Games, the UK studio behind cinematic horror titles such as Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology, announces another round of layoffs. The company says the cuts will affect “up to 75” people, continuing a pattern of reductions reported in recent years.
In a statement posted on X, Supermassive frames the job losses as “a necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company.” GameSpot notes this is the third straight year of significant layoffs at the studio and cites earlier reports of large reductions in 2024 and additional cuts in 2025. Eurogamer similarly reports that as many as 75 employees are expected to lose their jobs. GameSpot also places the move in broader industry context, referencing layoffs at other studios in the same parent group.
Supermassive is owned by Nordisk Games, which acquired the studio in 2022 and also holds stakes in Avalanche Studios and MercurySteam. The latest cuts come while the studio’s roster includes ongoing and recently released work, including Directive 8020 in The Dark Pictures series.
